University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has emerged top on the list of winners of the 4th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M Awards) for the combined admissions year 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The institution bagged a princely sum of N500m in the process.
The winners were announced on Thursday in Abuja by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede at 2024 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions organised by the Board.
The Award presentation to
Professor Wahab Egbewole, Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN was done by Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin assisted by members of the high table which included the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu; Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu and a host of others.
UNILORIN emerged the best institution with an aggregate of twelve (12) points in the overall category comprising all the five elements of the NATAP-M Awards.
The categories are: The institution of first choice for candidates to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria; The most National Institution in Admissions; The Most Improved Institution in Gender Balance; The Institution with the Highest Number of International Students in Admission and The Most Compliant Institution in Keeping to the Guidelines in Admissions.
Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria emerged the Runner up institution with an aggregate of eleven (11) points in the overall category comprising all the five categories and got N75million to the bargain.
Borno State, Maiduguri won N20 million and came third with an aggregate of nine (9) points in the overall category comprising all the five elements of the award as well.
Winner of the sectoral award for Polytechnics was Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna which got N50 million and an aggregate of twelve (12) points in all the five elements of the award.
Federal College of Education, Zaria was the winner in the Colleges of Education category and was awarded N50 million while PEFTI Film Institute, Lagos came first in the Innovation Enterprise Institutions Sectoral Awards and got N10 million.
The CV of UNILORIN, Prof Egbewole in his acceptance speech thanked JAMB for the award to his institution.
He said the institution will not rest on its oars and promised that the money won will be judiciously used.
