Lagos State University (LASU) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has bowed out after five years in office, highlighting major achievements recorded during her tenure.
Speaking at the grand finale of LASU’s 29th and 30th Combined Convocation Ceremonies, Olatunji-Bello said the university’s internally generated revenue increased from ₦3 billion to ₦13 billion between September 2021 and September 2025.
She also highlighted a 96 per cent first-year programme accreditation success rate, saying LASU later secured full accreditation for 43 of 44 programmes presented in 2023, while 17 new programmes received full accreditation in 2026.
Her administration also established four faculties and two schools, introduced more than 30 new courses and oversaw the construction of more than 50 infrastructure projects, including 8,000-bed hostels and a ₦3 billion TETFund-sponsored Academic Resource Centre.
On research, she disclosed that LASU researchers secured ₦29 million in grants, while TETFund approved ₦3 billion for a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Security.
She also cited LASU’s sports achievements, including finishing second overall at the 2024 All-Africa University Games and winning 39 medals at the 2025 Nigeria Universities Games.
A total of 20,604 students are graduating across the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
LASU also conferred honorary doctorate degrees on Aliko Dangote, Akin Kekere-Ekun and Harriet-Ann Omobola Bola Adesola for their contributions to business, finance, entrepreneurship and governance.
Olatunji-Bello described her five-year tenure as a period that transformed LASU into “the most subscribed university in Nigeria and the most digitally advanced among our peers.”
She thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support, describing the five uninterrupted convocation ceremonies held during her tenure as one of her proudest achievements.
