The Nigerian Army has announced a strategic redeployment of senior officers to key command, operational and staff positions as part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and improve the Service’s response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The redeployments, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, are designed to place officers with relevant experience and expertise in critical operational theatres and strategic appointments.
The Army said the exercise was aimed at strengthening leadership, enhancing command efficiency and aligning its force structure with contemporary security realities across the country.
Under the new postings, Major General IA Ajose has been moved from the Department of Army Operations at Army Headquarters to the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), where he will serve as Theatre Commander.
His predecessor, Major General AE Abubakar, has been redeployed from OPHK to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC) as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research.
Major General AM Alechenu has also been redeployed from Defence Headquarters Garrison to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, while Major General RT Utsaha moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to Defence Headquarters Garrison as Commander.
In another major change, Major General AM Umar moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs to the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) as Commandant. He will be replaced at the Department of Civil-Military Affairs by Major General UM Alkali, who is moving from the Army War College Nigeria.
Major General GS Muhammed, who was previously at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation (NAFIC) as Director General.
Similarly, Major General JE Osifo moves from NAFIC to the Military Pension Board as Chairman, while Major General IE Ekpenyong has been posted to the Department of Defence Logistics at Defence Headquarters as Director, Engineering Services.
Changes at operational formations
At the operational level, Brigadier General AA Bello moves from 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, to the Department of Defence Operations at Defence Headquarters.
Brigadier General MS Adamu has been redeployed from the Nigerian Army Women Command to the newly established 8 Brigade as Commander, while Brigadier General MS Sule moves from the Special Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, to 27 Task Force Brigade as Commander.
Brigadier General I Sule has also been redeployed from the Directorate of Recruitment Management to 6 Division Garrison as Commander.
Brigadier General E Azenda moves from the Land Forces Simulation Centre to 2 Division Garrison as Commander, while Brigadier General AS Bugaje moves from 2 Division Garrison to the Land Forces Simulation Centre as Director, Administration.
The Nigerian Army said the redeployments were part of a broader effort to maintain a dynamic leadership and force-employment framework capable of responding effectively to both existing and emerging security threats.
The COAS charged the newly appointed commanders and senior officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating exemplary leadership, professionalism, operational innovation and an unwavering commitment to duty.
He urged them to remain focused on the constitutional mandate of the Nigerian Army, particularly the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty, protection of its territorial integrity and support for civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
According to the Army, the new leadership configuration is expected to improve operational outcomes, strengthen joint and inter-agency coordination and enhance the capacity of formations and commands to respond decisively to security threats.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining reforms and strategic force deployment aimed at advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives.
