The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have agreed on a one-off verification system for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will be required to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or O’Level results only once through a JAMB-provided verification platform.
The two examination and admission bodies disclosed this in a joint statement issued following a series of meetings and consultations on the implementation of the new WASSCE O’Level result verification service.
According to the statement, candidates will pay ₦4,000 only for the verification of their WASSCE results, with payment to be made through the specified JAMB platform and not through their preferred tertiary institutions.
JAMB and WAEC also clarified that candidates will not be required to pay additional verification fees to tertiary institutions after successfully completing the verification process.
The institutions, they said, are expected to use the verified results made available to them by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for the purposes of admission and screening.
The new arrangement is designed to ensure that a successfully verified WASSCE result can be used for multiple admission-related purposes without requiring candidates to repeat the verification exercise.
The bodies said the initiative would reduce the stress and cost associated with repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, as candidates would be able to initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location.
They therefore urged candidates to take advantage of the new system by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.
The collaboration, JAMB and WAEC said, underscores their commitment to putting candidates’ interests first, reducing unnecessary expenses and simplifying the admission process while safeguarding the integrity and security of academic records.
