Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu on Saturday night at 9.30 pm, formally brought the Situation Room, set up on 17th June to monitor field activities during the 2022 Ekiti Governorship Election held on Saturday 18th June, to a close.

This followed the conclusion of the election process with the declaration of Mr. Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the polls.

Prof. Yakubu thanked staff members of INEC for their dedication.

An election Situation Room, according to Wikipedia, “provides a forum for advance planning, scenario building, evidence based analysis, constructive engagement with various stakeholders in the electoral process and observation of elections.”

It is fashioned after ” a wartime “situation room”, established to ensure coordination between all the armed forces and civilian authorities conducting a war…” ,says Open Society Initiative For West Africa (OSIWA).
