Senator Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, declared the safe release of the abducted Kuriga school children.

This was contained in a statement early hours of Sunday by the Kaduna State Government.

“During the harrowing period of captivity, Governor Sani maintained regular communication with the President, who provided solace and support to the affected families and authorities. The President’s dedication to the crisis was evident as he worked tirelessly to ensure a positive resolution,” the State Government said.

It added that “The governor also praised the National Security Adviser, Mal. Nuhu Ribadu, for his exceptional leadership and strategic coordination with security agencies. This collaboration played a crucial role in the successful rescue operation.

“A special commendation was given to the Nigerian Army for their bravery and steadfastness in combating criminal activities and restoring peace in the community.

“Governor Sani acknowledged the collective prayers and support from Nigerians nationwide, emphasizing that this unity was key to the children’s safe return. As the nation rejoices, the governor gave thanks to Almighty Allah for the successful outcome.

“This event marks a significant triumph for the community and the country at large, reinforcing the strength and resilience of the Nigerian spirit.”

The State Government said further details would be provided later.

Bandits invaded LEA Primary School Kuriga and Junior Secondary School, Kuriga town, in Chikun Local Government Area of the state around 8am on March 7 and abducted 287 students including a principal, Abubakar Isah.

The abductors later demanded N1bn from the family to release the children, but both the state and federal governments insisted that no ransom would be paid.
