Alhaja Aminatu Abiola, stepmother of the Ogun State APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has spoken out on the senator’s family background, reaffirming his Ogun State ancestry and dismissing claims questioning his roots.
In a video released amid renewed public discussion over the governorship candidate’s ancestry, Alhaja Abiola said she was the member of the family with Ekiti State roots, clarifying that the senator’s biological parents were not from Ekiti.
According to her, Senator Adeola’s late father, popularly known as Oteko, was an indigene of Ogun State, while his biological mother was also from the state.
She explained that the clarification became necessary because of what she described as the continued circulation of narratives about the senator’s family background that, in her view, do not reflect the family’s account of his ancestry.
Alhaja Abiola stressed that she was speaking as a member of the family with direct knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Senator Adeola’s parentage and background.
She urged members of the public, particularly residents of Ogun State, to distinguish between verifiable family history and claims made in the course of political disagreements.
The development comes against the backdrop of ongoing political discussions surrounding Senator Adeola’s candidacy for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election and previous controversies over his eligibility and ancestral ties to the state.
The senator, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly, emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election after the party’s primary.
The question of indigeneship has featured prominently in political discourse in Ogun, particularly in relation to the contest for the governorship.
Supporters of Adeola have repeatedly maintained that his Ogun ancestry is established, while opponents have raised questions about his family background.
Alhaja Abiola’s intervention is therefore being presented by supporters of the senator as a direct family testimony aimed at providing clarification on the issue.
She appealed to the public to seek information from people with direct knowledge of the family’s history rather than relying on what she described as politically motivated narratives, speculation or unverified accounts circulating in public discourse.
