…Announces Grant for 1,000 Traders
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has directed the immediate commencement of construction of a new ultra-modern market at Olomore in Abeokuta.
Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, gave the directive while speaking at an endorsement ceremony organised by the 24 unions under the United Traders Forum (UTF) of Ogun State at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta.
The senator said construction workers would be mobilised to the Olomore market site within the week, following a request by traders for a modern trading facility comparable to markets constructed in other parts of the state.
He also pledged to construct roads within and around the trading communities represented by the UTF, saying improved road infrastructure would enhance the business environment and facilitate the movement of goods and customers.
The governorship candidate said his commitment to the traders was driven by his desire to support economic activities and improve the welfare of artisans, traders and other small business operators across Ogun State.
Adeola further announced a N50,000 each grant for 1,000 members of the United Traders Forum, in addition to another financial contribution to the umbrella body.
He expressed appreciation for the traders’ endorsement and financial support, assuring them that he would not take their confidence and contributions for granted.
Among the trade groups that contributed N1 million each to support Adeola’s campaign were the Plank Sellers Association of Ogun State; Olomore Ram, Pepper and Fish Sellers; Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association, Abeokuta Computer Village; Kemta Indigenous Timber Contractors; and the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA).
The Egba Ram and Goat Sellers also presented a ram to the APC candidate.
Earlier, the President of the United Traders Forum, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi, said the 24 unions decided to endorse Adeola because of what he described as his record of performance and development initiatives across Ogun State as a senator.
Ajadi said the traders were determined to support Adeola’s bid for the governorship in 2027, noting that members of the forum possessed Permanent Voter Cards and were prepared to mobilise their families and associates to vote for the APC candidate.
He said traders at Olomore had long desired a modern market similar to the facility constructed by Adeola at Panseke and other locations across the state.
The endorsement ceremony was attended by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu; and former Speakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni Sodunke and Rt. Hon. Surajudeen Adekumbi.
Also present were former Ogun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele; former APC State Chairman, Hon. Derin Adebiyi; Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun; Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Omoniyi Jagunmolu Akande; and other party leaders and stakeholders.
The event brought together traders and representatives of the 24 unions under the UTF, who formally declared their support for Adeola’s 2027 governorship bid.
