The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Federal Government (FG) for the bold and unequivocal stand of Nigeria on the ongoing genocide in Gaza as expressed in the address recently delivered by the Vice President at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79).

The group described the speech as insightful, penetrating, bold, arcane and cerebral. However, MURIC also demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Nigerian ambassador to Israel in order to drive home its message at the UN.

The full statement reads:

“Vice President Kashim Shettima did Nigeria proud on Tuesday, 24th September, 2024 when he delivered Nigeria’s speech on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79).

“Nigeria’s demand for justice, freedom and full independence for the Palestinian people as expressed during the speech tallies with the wishes and aspirations of justice-loving Nigerians. This speech is insightful, penetrating, bold, arcane and cerebral.

“The state of Israel is a warmongering entity whose vocabulary lacks the words, ‘peace, tolerance and justice’. Unfortunately, America and its Western allies have turned the UN into a toothless bulldog. This is why the Zionists will continue to defy the UN and genocide in Palestine will continue ad infinitum unless concrete actions are taken by individual countries of the world who know the essence of peaceful coexistence.

“South Africa manifested its understanding of this concept when it dragged Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) where Israel was indicted and the order was given for the arrest of Netanyahu. More countries are needed to demonstrate the world’s resolve to stop Israel’s intransigence and its endless crave for more blood.

“Just as Nigeria was at the forefront of the anti-apartheid struggle in Zimbabwe and South Africa, it is now the turn of Nigeria to move against Israel. We therefore charge Nigeria to walk its talk at the UN by withdrawing its ambassador to Israel with immediate effect in order to drive home its message at the UN.”
