A popular southeast cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Iyiorji, has been killed by the so-called ‘Unknown Gunmen’.
It was learnt that Sheikh Iyiorji died on Monday night at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki after he was attacked by some ‘Unknown Gunmen’ at his residence in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area (LGA) of Ebonyi State on Sunday night.
Reacting to the cleric’s murder, members of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) Abuja Branch condoled with the Ebonyi State Muslim community.
In a statement jointly signed Salahudeen Ustaz Yunus, the Chairman, MURIC Abuja Branch; and Luqman Leleye, the Public Relations Officer of MURIC Abuja branch, the group asked authorities to get to the root of the circumstances surrounding the attack.
“May Allah enable the Government do the needful in getting to the root of the circumstances surrounding his attack by the dare-devils.
“May Allah make it easy for each and every one of us to strive hard in pleasing Allah before our destined period of death,” MURIC’s statement reads in part.
Also reacting to the incident, Disu Kamor
Executive Chairman of Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC Nigeria) said in a statement that
“As we mourn the death of the Shaykh, and commiserate with his family and immediate community, we call on the governments of the South-Eastern region of Nigeria to take responsibility for the lives and properties of the Muslims living in the region, and save them from incessant attacks by those determined to exterminate them and eradicate the practice of Islam in the region.
“We call on the Nigerian Government to act now to ensure that no Nigerian carries a price tag as a result of the religion he or she practices anywhere in Nigeria.”
