Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State, has projected that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) could rise to ₦100 billion monthly in a few years. He attributed the potential leap to the solid economic foundation laid by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration over the past seven and a half years and the faithful implementation of his own 9-Pillars ITESIWAJU Agenda.
Speaking at the continuation of his statewide stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Ikenne Local Government Area on Wednesday, Senator Adeola said Ogun State is on the verge of becoming an oil-producing state. He cited a $7 billion deep seaport project signed by the governor last week for Ogun Waterside, expected to become operational by 2029. Combined with the Gateway International Cargo Airport and two inland dry ports initiated under the current administration, he argued that the state is positioned for economic growth that could rival or even surpass that of Lagos State.
While calling on the people of Ogun East to support Governor Abiodun’s bid to represent the senatorial district in the Senate in 2027, Adeola stressed that the governor has laid a foundation for lasting prosperity. “Governor Dapo Abiodun is laying a foundation for me that no governor coming after me will not pray for. Ogun State is about to become an oil-producing state courtesy of Governor Abiodun. Just last week, a $7 billion deep seaport like that of Apapa Port in Lagos was signed by the governor to be sited in Ogun Waterside. By 2029, that port will become functional,” he said.
The Ogun West senator noted that the synergy between him, the governor and the APC-led federal government would guarantee continued economic growth and prosperity for the state. He acknowledged that no administration can achieve everything within a single tenure but maintained that Abiodun has performed creditably. His 9-Pillars ITESIWAJU Agenda, he added, is designed both to build on the current foundation and to introduce new initiatives.
Adeola insisted that Abiodun remains the most suitable candidate to represent Ogun East, arguing that residents should not entrust their representation to a stranger given the governor’s contributions to the development of the state and the district.
On his own governorship ambition, the senator appealed to the people of Ikenne and other communities in Remoland to reciprocate the political support the Yewa people extended to Abiodun during his 2023 re-election. “The Yewas have never betrayed the Remo. We ensured that the governor won his second-term ticket, and he won. So, I am here today to solicit your support to reciprocate the gesture we have shown to Governor Abiodun by supporting me to become the next governor of Ogun State,” he said.
He promised inclusive governance that would address areas where the current administration may not have fully met residents’ expectations, while sustaining ongoing projects and building on its achievements. Adeola warned that a successor who fails to understand the efforts and challenges behind the present administration’s gains could undermine the state’s progress, adding that Ogun is poised for its first smooth transition of power.
Earlier, Oba Joseph Obafemi Saliu, the Ologere of Ogere, speaking on behalf of traditional rulers and baales, endorsed Adeola’s governorship aspiration. He noted that the senator had already executed developmental projects in Ikenne Local Government Area — including roads, a hospital and solar street lights — even without being their representative. “You can assess what is going to happen tomorrow from what is done today,” the monarch said, expressing confidence that Adeola would do the right thing for the people of Ikenne if elected governor.
The event attracted representatives of more than 30 groups, including Community Development Associations (CDAs), Community Development Councils (CDCs), baales, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the League of Imams and Alfas , the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and other voluntary organisations.
Senator Adeola was accompanied by his wife, Chief Mrs Temitope Adeola; the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; the Director-General of the APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Senator Lekan Mustapha; the Deputy DG (Political) of the APC Campaign Council, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu; Hon. Kayode Oladele of the Federal Character Commission; and Dr Samuel Adejare, Secretary of the APC Campaign Council.
