The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Headquarters
has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election and petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) over his alleged impersonation of the party’s governorship candidate.
The development comes amid an escalating dispute over the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
In a disclaimer dated August 24, 2026 and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the APC said Hunye remained suspended and, therefore, lacked the authority to represent the party in any capacity.
The party identified Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its duly nominated governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
According to the APC, the names of Adeola and Abiodun had been submitted through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with acknowledgment slips issued on August 7, 2026.
The party said Hunye’s suspension followed a petition by the Executive Committee of his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, dated March 23, 2026, alleging “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities.”
The Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee subsequently ratified the suspension on March 27, 2026, while the Ogun State Working Committee approved the decision at a meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on April 7, 2026.
The APC said the Ogun State Working Committee also formally notified the party’s national screening committee for governorship aspirants of the ratification on May 5, 2026.
The party warned individuals and organisations against conducting political activities with Hunye under the name of the APC, saying anyone who did so would be acting at their own risk.
It also cautioned media organisations against providing him platforms to present himself as the party’s governorship candidate, adding that its legal team had been directed to pursue contempt proceedings where applicable.
APC Petitions Police, DSS
In separate petitions dated August 24, 2026, the APC’s Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, approached the Inspector General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and the Director General of the DSS.
The party alleged that Hunye’s activities amounted to impersonation, conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace and violation of provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The APC requested that the security agencies invite Hunye for questioning, investigate the allegations and prosecute him if found culpable.
It also asked the agencies to restrain him from further presenting himself as the APC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.
The party said its petitions were received at the Police Force Headquarters on August 24, 2026, while the DSS acknowledged receipt of its petition at 6:39 p.m. the same day.
The APC further pledged the cooperation of its national and Ogun State structures with any investigation that may arise from the petitions.
