The development followed a meeting between the President of the NSE, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and the Director of Engineering, DSS, Engr. David Gowon Ojatah,  at the National Engineering Centre (NEC) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Speaking during the meeting, Ojatah commended the recent courtesy visit by the NSE President to the Director-General of the DSS, Mr Adeola Ajayi, describing the engagement as significant in promoting the professional development and advancement of engineers within the Service.

He disclosed that the DSS Director-General had responded positively to requests made during and after the visit, including a proposal for the elevation of qualified senior engineers in the Service to the Fellowship of the NSE.

Ojatah also appealed to the NSE to create a special window through which qualified engineering personnel in the DSS could regularise their professional membership of the Society.

Receiving Ojatah and his team, Rabiu expressed appreciation to the DSS Director-General for his prompt and positive response to the requests presented during his earlier engagement with the Service.

The NSE President said the Society was prepared to support the professional advancement of qualified DSS engineers, while stressing that all applicants would be required to satisfy the prescribed conditions for the relevant membership grades.

Rabiu assured that, notwithstanding the Society’s recent tightening of the requirements and procedures governing the conferment of Fellowship, qualified senior engineers in the DSS would be duly considered once they submit their applications and fulfil all stipulated requirements.

He subsequently directed the NSE Secretariat to receive the list of qualified engineering personnel from the DSS and commence the necessary processes for their admission into the appropriate membership grades of the Society.
The NSE President further acknowledged the support of the DSS leadership for the Society’s activities and appealed for its continued cooperation towards the successful hosting of the NSE International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting.

The conference and AGM are scheduled to hold in Maiduguri from November 30 to December 4, 2026.
Rabiu also asked Ojatah to convey his special appreciation to the DSS Director-General for the warm reception accorded him and members of the Conference Planning Committee during their recent visit.

He described the gesture as a demonstration of institutional goodwill towards the engineering profession and a positive indication of the DSS leadership’s support for the forthcoming NSE International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting.
