Deputy President-General (South) of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and President of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo and Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, Commissioner in charge of Operations at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) were among  the more than 500 Muslim leaders that attended the 48th Grand Hajj Symposium in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Themed Observing the  Religious Permissions and Adhering to the Established Regulations in Hajj Ritual, the Symposium was hosted by the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

In his presentation on behalf of the NSCIA, Alhaji Oladejo explained how important it is in Islam to accept reliefs offered by the religion in the performance of rites. He cited the reducing of the four parts prayer to two for Pilgrims during certain times and also merging the two prayers as examples.

On his part, Elegushi who led the Nigerian delegation to the Symposium on behalf of the Chairman/CEO, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, said the forum was
important and its message was also clear, promising that it
will be disseminated to Nigerian Pilgrims through their respective States’ Pilgrims Welfare Agencies, Boards and Commissions.

The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia,
Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh, while highlighting the Kingdom’s responsibility in caring for the Two Holy Mosques and pilgrims emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations and obtaining a pilgrimage permit to perform Hajj. He said failing to do so is a sin, according to the Shariah.

Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah dwelt on the importance of informing pilgrims about available services during Hajj.

The Minister also stressed the need for pilgrims to cooperate with security authorities.

Lt. Gen. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, Director of Public Security and chairman of the Hajj Security Committee, said “We will prevent anyone who dares to compromise the security of Hajj, the sanctity of the holy sites, or the safety of the nation,” adding that “Our eyes and centers are prepared to handle anything that may disturb the tranquility of pilgrims.”
