The Ogun State Police Command has said no gunshot wounds were found on the body of the late retired broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, dismissing widespread claim that she was killed by gunmen.

Oyesiku, a former staff member of Ogun State Television, was found dead alongside her security guard at her residence at Iyana Agodo Village, in the Kobape area of Abeokuta in the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, cautioned against premature conclusions, stressing that ongoing investigations had yet to establish the exact cause of death.

He said, “There is currently no evidence to suggest that the deceased was attacked by gunmen, as no gunshot wounds were found on the body. Members of the public and the media are therefore urged to respect the dignity of the deceased, refrain from circulating unverified or speculative reports, and allow the ongoing investigation to run its full course.

“The Command assures that findings will be communicated in due time, and appeals for calm so as not to create unnecessary panic within the public space.”

Earlier accounts indicated signs of forced entry at the residence, with the lifeless body of the security guard discovered at his duty post, while Oyesiku was found inside her apartment. Her vehicle was also reported missing.

Police authorities however said while these circumstances remain under investigation, no definitive conclusion has been reached regarding the nature of the attack or the involvement of armed assailants.

CSP Babaseyi Oluseyi disclosed
that operatives were promptly deployed to the scene following a distress call received at the Owode Egba Division from a resident of Iyana Agodo Village.

He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had ordered a thorough and coordinated investigation, with detectives exploring multiple leads to unravel the incident.

The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information that could assist the investigation.
