NAHCON:Excitement as Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman assumes office as Acting Chairman/CEO

Hajj House, Abuja,  the corporate headquarters of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON ) was in an upbeat state on Wednesday, 2nd October 2024 with the assumption of Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman as the new helmsman.

Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman, appointed NAHCON Chairman/CEO in August 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, assumed office in acting capacity as he awaits the screening and endorsement by the Senate.

The renowned Islamic scholar who is well-grounded in hajj operations, having served as the chairman of Kano State Pilgrim’s Board, was heralded into Hajj House and his office by the Commissioners and Management Team of the Commission.

Shafii Sani Mohammed of NAHCON Publications Department reported at the brief reception held in  honor of Professor Usman, Prince Aliu Abdulrazaq  expressed delight and gratitude at having the Chairman assume office and called on Staff to give him maximum cooperation towards the success of the Commission and in order to achieve its vision and mission.

He further called on staff to have the fear of Allah in executing their tasks while acknowledging the importance of continuity, particularly in the face of preparations for the upcoming 2025 Hajj.

The Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Rabiu Abdullahi Kontagora also warmly welcomed the Chairman to the Commission and expressed how hardworking the Staff of the Commission are and are committed and confident in his leadership.

Further reiterating the diligence of the Commission Staff, Director, Administration and Human Resources Management, Babagana Bukar emphasised on the remarkable ability and diligence of staff towards their duties and can exceed expectation with a little push and motivation.

Responding on behalf of the Chairman/CEO’s entourage, Dr. Shehu Makarfi appreciated the warm reception accorded the Chairman and also used the opportunity to thank all for their support and expressed his willingness to work with all towards uplifting the Commission.

The Acting Chairman’s tenure will focus on preparing the Commission for the next phase of 2025 Hajj operations, including finalizing the Commission’s strategic plans and addressing challenges faced during previous Hajj operations.

Pending his confirmation by the Senate, Professor Usman will continue to oversee all Hajj-related activities, working closely with the government and other stakeholders to ensure a successful Hajj pilgrimage for Nigerian pilgrims.
