The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has expressed sadness over the death of a security officer in a tragic incident at a cinema facility in Lekki, Lagos State.
In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Adebukola A. Agbaminoja, the Board condoled with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased security officer.
The Board also wished the person injured in the incident a speedy and full recovery.
LSFVCB described the incident as a stark reminder of the need for effective safety and security measures at cinemas and other entertainment facilities across the state.
“While the relevant security agencies continue their investigations, the LSFVCB urges the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information,” the statement said.
The Board stressed that the safety and well-being of cinema patrons, employees and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry remained a priority.
It therefore called on cinema operators and other stakeholders to continually review and strengthen their security and emergency-response measures in collaboration with relevant security agencies.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the unfortunate incident,” Agbaminoja said.
The death of the security officer occurred following a violent attack at the car park of Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX in Lekki, Lagos, during the late hours of Friday, August 29, into the early hours of Saturday, August 30, 2026.
An erratic man, armed with a machete and a knife, attempted to force his way into the cinema premises. Eyewitnesses noted he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
When security guards stopped him from entering, the assailant became violent. He stabbed one security guard to death and severely injured another.
