Eight lawmakers from Zamfara State who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved to return to the ruling party following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The lawmakers met with the President on Sunday night in a move aimed at resolving the grievances that prompted their departure from the party and securing their support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.

They were led to the meeting by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, alongside a member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji.

The development is expected to ease tensions within the APC in Zamfara State, where the lawmakers’ resignation had raised concerns about the party’s strength and cohesion ahead of the next general election.

The lawmakers had reportedly been considering joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling speculation about a fresh wave of defections to the opposition party.

However, following their meeting with Tinubu, the eight legislators have decided against joining the ADC and are expected to return to the APC as efforts to address their grievances gather momentum.

Although details of the discussions with the President have not been made public, the meeting is understood to be part of ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members and prevent further defections ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawmakers’ decision to reconsider their departure could provide a boost to the APC’s efforts to consolidate its political base in Zamfara State, where internal disagreements have posed challenges for the party.

Their return would also strengthen the party’s legislative presence and provide an opportunity for renewed cooperation among its stakeholders as political activities intensify ahead of the elections.
The eight lawmakers are Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, representing Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara, representing Maradun I; and Bashir Abubakar Masama, representing Bukkuyum North.
Others are Muktaru Nasiru Kaura, representing Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru North; Bashar Bello, representing Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu, representing Gummi I.

Their planned return to the APC comes as political parties and their leading figures begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general election, with reconciliation efforts and realignments expected to shape the contest in Zamfara State and across the country.
