The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has alerted the public to an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account, formerly known as Twitter.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the incident was being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with appropriate technical measures activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.
Uba said efforts were ongoing to fully restore the Defence Headquarters’ control of the account.
He consequently urged members of the public to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that might be posted from the account during the period.
“The Defence Headquarters remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of information security and ensuring that the public continues to receive accurate, timely and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the statement said.
The DHQ appreciated the understanding and vigilance of members of the public, assuring that further updates would be provided as necessary.
To ensure uninterrupted communication, the military urged the public to rely on its active official channels on other platforms for verified information.
These include Facebook under the name Defence Headquarters Nigeria, Instagram at @defenceheadquarters, and the Defence Headquarters Nigeria WhatsApp Channel.
