Court orders remand of man for allegedly defrauding  businesswoman of N48 million

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday remanded a 45-year-old man, Ifeanyi Moses, in Kuje Correctional Centre for allegedly defrauding a businesswoman, Mrs Amaka Agu, of N48 million.

Justice Salim Ibrahim gave the order after Moses pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge preferred against him by the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police.

The I-G, in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/378/2026, named Ifeanyi Eze Moses as sole defendant.

The charge, dated June 19, was filed on June 26 by Okokon Udo,  a police prosecutor.

When the case was called, F.M. Isong, informed the court that the matter was scheduled for the defendant’s arraignment and he was ready to proceed.

I.G. Abah, who appeared for Moses, did not object.

After the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to all the four counts.

Isong then applied for a trial date and urged the court to remand Moses in Kuje Correctional Centre.

But Abah, who admitted he was yet to file a bail application, sought a bail for his client.

The judge told the lawyer to file a formal bail application since the court is a court of record and that when the application gets to him, it will be heard.

The matter was consequently adjourned until Oct. 14 for trial.

In count one, Moses was alleged to have, sometime in June 2024, with intent to defraud Mrs Agu, induced her to deliver to him the sum of N48 million which was paid into his FCMB Bank Acct number: 955993020 with account name: Sibon Motor Global Ltd.

The money was said to have been paid with pretext that Moses would “use the money to facilitate mini truck vehicle business which money you received and converted to your own use, the representation you Knew to be false.”

The police said the offence is punishable under Section 1 (1) (a) (b) (c) (2) (3) and 11 of the advanced fee fraud and (other fraud related) offences Act, 2006, Mong other counts.
