The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) has ordered its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Yunusa Ari Hudu, to stay away from the commission until further notice.

The directive is sequel to Sunday’s illegal declaration of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Aisha Binani as the winner of the state governorship election by the REC rather than the State Returning Officer (RO) who is empowered by law to do so.

In a letter dated April 17th, 2023 and signed by the commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission ordered Hudu to hand over to the Administrative Secretary of the state office.

The letter titled: Commission’s Directive to Stay Away From INEC, Adamawa State reads:  “I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari) Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the commission’s office in Adamawa state immediately until further notice.

The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take charge of INEC, Adamawa State with immediate effect.”
