The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has officially endorsed the First National Mining Tax Summit scheduled for November 2026 in Abuja, describing it as a timely platform to educate industry players on the country’s new solid minerals taxation regime.
In a letter dated October 6, 2026, addressed to the Editor of The Miners, Alake said the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development welcomed the initiative by the magazine and its partners.
He noted that one of the lasting legacies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is the reform of the revenue collection system in line with progressive taxation principles.
A key element of the reforms, the minister explained, is the fresh emphasis on taxation of solid minerals and the introduction of a new regime that ensures joint management of solid minerals taxation by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Nigeria Revenue Service.
“In this regard, I believe the Summit is a timely opportunity to educate players in the sector and sensitise them to the new procedures, taxes and platforms established for the smooth collection of solid mineral taxes, levies and charges. I hereby endorse the National Mining Tax Summit and wish the organisers successful deliberations,” Alake stated.
The summit is being organised by the tripartite of Miners Communications Limited (publishers of The Miners Magazine and The Miners Online), Secom Limited and Lambard Consulting.
Alake’s endorsement follows earlier support from the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
MAN, in a letter dated September 16, 2026, signed by its National President, Dele Ayanleke, formally accepted its invitation and “enthusiastically” endorsed the summit.
The association described the initiative as timely and essential for driving sustainable economic growth, pledging to contribute its expertise, participate in key panel discussions and engage with other stakeholders.
CITN, in a letter dated September 4, 2026, signed by its Registrar/Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, FCTI, confirmed its participation and nominated two senior professionals as resource persons: Alhaji Azeez Alatoye, FCTI, as keynote speaker, and Mr Wahab Shina Omoniyi, FCTI, as a panelist.
Alatoye, Lead Legal Consultant at Ascension Legal Services and Dean of the Extractive Industry Tax Faculty of CITN, is expected to deliver the lead paper titled “Aligning Mining Operations with Current Tax Laws.” Omoniyi, Assistant Director and Head of Budget at the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) and Chairman of the CITN Solid Minerals Sub-Committee, will contribute to the panel discussions.
The Nigeria Mining Tax Summit is scheduled for November 11–13, 2026, in Abuja.
It is designed to bring together government regulators, mining companies, investors, tax professionals and other stakeholders to examine the implications of Nigeria’s evolving fiscal framework for the mining industry, with a focus on how taxation can support investment, strengthen government revenue and promote sustainable growth in the sector.
