The Accord Party Chairman in the Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola (popularly known as Baba Isila), was shot by suspected gunmen on Wednesday night, June 3, 2026.
The attack took place around the MDS area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Assailants chased and opened fire on a Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and his associates at approximately 9:50 p.m.
The occupants managed to drive through the gunfire and escape to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters for protection, causing the attackers to flee.
Ajibola survived the ambush and was rushed to the Uniosun Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The shooting comes amid a wave of intense political violence and escalating tension in Osun State ahead of the state’s gubernatorial elections scheduled to take place on Saturday, 15th August, 2026.
In May 2026, gunmen killed Kolade Eluyera, the son of the Accord Party’s Women Leader in Irewole Local Government Area.
Less than three weeks ago, the Accord Party’s state secretariat (Imole House) was targeted by armed men who shot sporadically into the building, penetrating the office of the State Chairman, Victor Akande.
