The President of Abeokuta Club, Dr. Adewale Adeola, has distanced the organisation from a purported

planned private meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Adeola said the club was not aware of the proposed meeting, stressing that it was separate from the organisation’s planned engagement with governorship aspirants ahead of the 2027 election.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the club’s president explained that the organisation had, at its September 2026 general meeting, received an interim report from the Egba Development Committee, presented by its chairman, Lawyer Adebayo Ayodele.

According to him, a major recommendation in the report was the convocation of a town hall meeting involving various interest groups across the six local government areas of Egbaland.

He said the proposed meeting would provide a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the development priorities of Egbaland and present the Egba Development Plan Document covering the 2027–2037 period to governorship candidates.

Adeola explained that the candidates  to be invited would include Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola- Yayi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Adebutu, among others.

He disclosed that the town hall meeting had been scheduled for the third week of November 2026.

The club president emphasised that Abeokuta Club was a non-partisan organisation committed to the development of Egbaland, irrespective of political affiliations.

He therefore clarified that the private meeting reportedly scheduled for Sunday, October 25, with Adebutu was unknown to the club.

The clarification comes as political activities gather momentum in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with political parties and aspirants intensifying consultations and engagements with stakeholders.
