Artisans under the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Ogun State chapter, received a significant boost on Thursday as Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) announced a wide-ranging intervention package aimed at improving their security, mobility, and economic capacity.
Speaking at an ongoing parley with the association’s leadership and members in Abeokuta, the Ogun All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election outlined support spanning all 20 local government areas of the state.
Central to the package is the donation of 1,000 solar-powered street lights for installation across mechanic villages and clusters. The gesture forms part of Adeola’s ongoing Light-Up Ogun State initiative, under which more than 16,500 solar street light poles have already been deployed in communities, markets, and palaces. He said the lights would enhance both productivity and security in the workshops.
Adeola also presented a brand-new 18-seater bus to the state chapter of NATA to ease logistics and movement for members.
On welfare, he announced five annual Hajj slots and five Jerusalem pilgrimage slots for association members.
Looking ahead to 2027, the Senator pledged to establish more functional and modern mechanic villages across the state if elected governor, providing organised workspaces for technicians.
For economic empowerment, he promised to set up a N250 million NATA cooperative society offering single-digit interest loans to support members’ businesses. To immediately kick-start the fund, Adeola announced a personal donation of N100 million.
NATA Ogun leadership described the interventions as unprecedented in the association’s history in the state, noting that the cooperative capital would enable members to acquire tools, spare parts, and expand their workshops.
