The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has nominated two senior tax and public finance professionals, Alhaji Azeez Alatoye, FCTI, and Mr Wahab Shina Omoniyi, FCTI, as resource persons for the forthcoming Nigeria Mining Tax Summit.
The nominations followed the institute’s endorsement of the summit, scheduled for November 11–13, 2026, in Abuja, where stakeholders are expected to examine the evolving tax and fiscal regime governing Nigeria’s mining industry.
CITN, in a letter dated September 4, 2026, signed by its Registrar/Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, FCTI, confirmed the institute’s participation in the summit and nominated Alatoye as keynote speaker and Omoniyi as a panelist.
Alatoye is expected to deliver the lead paper, titled “Aligning Mining Operations with Current Tax Laws,” while Omoniyi will contribute to the summit’s panel discussions.
The summit is being organised by The Miners magazine, Secom Limited and Lambard Consulting as a platform for government agencies, mining companies, investors, tax professionals, lawyers and other industry stakeholders to deliberate on taxation, fiscal policy and the growth of Nigeria’s mining sector.
Alatoye: Legal and Tax Expert
Alatoye is the Lead Legal Consultant at Ascension Legal Services and an experienced specialist in energy, oil and gas taxation, corporate law and tax litigation.
He has gained professional experience with major multinational professional services firms, including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Deloitte and Ernst & Young (EY), and has handled numerous tax litigation matters for clients before Nigerian tribunals and courts, as well as international tribunals.
He has also led major corporate and commercial transactions involving mergers and acquisitions, buy-outs, corporate structuring and restructuring, and the provision of advanced legal opinions on international investment disputes, including matters relating to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and the International Chamber of Commerce.
His professional engagements have also included legislative reviews and policy work in the taxation and extractive industries.
Alatoye currently serves as Dean of the Extractive Industry Tax Faculty of CITN. He has previously served on the institute’s Research and Technical Committee, Finance and General Purpose Committee and chaired its Computer Sub-Committee.
He has participated in oil and gas and taxation conferences in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, United States, South Africa and Ghana, among other countries, and has presented papers on taxation, law and investment at several local and international fora.
A graduate of the University of Bradford, United Kingdom, where he obtained his LLB, Alatoye proceeded to the Nigerian Law School for his BL. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and CITN.
He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK, and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
His professional philosophy includes promoting a business-friendly investment environment and encouraging amicable resolution of commercial and tax disputes.
Omoniyi Brings Public Finance Expertise
Omoniyi, who is currently Assistant Director and Head of Budget at the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), Abuja, brings extensive experience in public financial management, budgeting and the administration of public resources to the summit.
With more than 19 years of professional experience, he has developed expertise in budget formulation and implementation, treasury management, financial reporting, auditing, public sector governance, project management and institutional leadership.
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Accounting at Bingham University and holds academic and professional qualifications in accounting, finance, treasury management and journalism.
Omoniyi is a Fellow of ANAN, CITN, the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Human Capital Development of Nigeria. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified System Accountants, USA, among other professional affiliations.
He currently chairs the CITN Solid Minerals Sub-Committee and has held several leadership positions within professional bodies, including Past Zonal Chairman, North Central, of ANAN and Past Chairman of the ANAN Abuja Branch.
He has also served on various national committees of ANAN, CITN and other professional organisations.
An author and public affairs commentator, Omoniyi has written books including Beyond Hope, Accounting & Finance Dictionary, The Boundary and Budget as a Tool for Public Financial Management.
His involvement in the mining sector, particularly through his role at the NGSA and his leadership of the CITN Solid Minerals Sub-Committee, is expected to add practical public finance and taxation perspectives to discussions at the summit.
