Governors of Ogun, Sokoto and Taraba States were on Saturday triumphant at the different election petition tribunals that gave judgments in cases challenging their victories in the 18 March 2023 governorship elections.
In Ogun State, the Election Petition Tribunal upheld the re-election of All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Dapo Abiodun, dismissing the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (
PDP) candidate, Ladi Adebutu, who challenged Abiodun’s election.
Similarly, the Sokoto Governorship Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the petition filed against the victory of Governor Ahmed Aliyu the APC by the candidate of the PDP, Sa’idu Umar.
The three-member panel led by Justice Huruna Mshelia said the petitioner could not prove his allegations of election rigging beyond reasonable doubts.
Still in the North, the Taraba Governorship Election Tribunal affirmed that Agbu Kefas of the PDP is the validly elected governor of the state.
The three-man panel of justices of the tribunal said the petition challenging the election of Kefas lacks merit and consequently dismissed it.
