Government College Ibadan Old Boys’ Association (GCIOBA) has said the proposed transfer of the running of the school to it will not affect the free education policy of the Oyo State Government.
The association which said it has spent over two billion Naira to improve facilities at the institution stated this on Thursday in a statement by its Vice President, Mr. Tola Obembe.

Obembe in the press statement said highlights of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) GCIOBA signed with the state government included:
a. Retaining the free education policies of the Government of Oyo State which states very clearly that no tuition fees will be paid by the students of the school;
b. The Governing Board of the school which will be responsible for the administration of the school will include representatives of Oyo State Government and the Parents Teachers Association
c. The Old Boys will continue to develop the infrastructure of the school on which they have already spent over N2,000,000,000 (Two Billion Naira) and will also improve the teaching methods of the school and train the staff to actualize the objectives of enhancing the quality of teaching.

1. We are happy to announce the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Oyo State and Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA), for the Management, Operation and Development of the School.
2. The Agreement was a product of very extensive negotiations between the Government of Oyo State and the Old Boys Association of Government College Ibadan. The highlights of the Agreement include the following:
a. Retaining the free education policies of the Government of Oyo State which states very clearly that no tuition fees will be paid by the students of the school;
b. The Governing Board of the school which will be responsible for the administration of the school will include representatives of Oyo State Government and the Parents Teachers Association

3. The Old Boys will like to commend the vision of the Government of Oyo State under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde for considerably enhancing the investment in education in Oyo State generally and to acknowledge the contributions his Government has made to the teaching faculty of Government College Ibadan which has surpassed by wide margin any previous Government of Oyo State.
