Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been listed in TIME Magazine 100 most influential people in the world for 2023.

The list, which was released on Thursday, placed the individuals in five categories: Titans, pioneers, artists, leaders, and icons.
Tinubu, the winner of Nigeria’s presidential election, is named alongside Joe Biden, president of the US; Anthony Albanese, prime minister of Australia and a few others in the “leader” category by the world renowned newsmagazine.
The publication said “Winning an election in Africa’s most populous country is no easy feat. But Nigeria’s newly elected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has had nearly two decades to prepare.”
Tinubu was further acknowledged in the publication as one of the pioneers of Nigeria’s liberation from military juntas and its dictatorial leadership style before the advent of democracy in 1999.
Time Magazine also reflected on Tinubu’s gallantness to win an election with three strong contenders for the first time in Nigeria’s 23 years of democracy.
Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) won 2023 presidential polls 8,794,726 votes to decimate Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 6,984,520 votes.
The candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, came third place after polling 6,101,533 votes.
With the handing-over ceremony onn May, 29, Tinubu’s status as President will be officially confirmed on that day.
Tinubu became the first Nigerian president-elect listed, while Goodluck Jonathan was the first Nigerian president to be recognised by the American Magazine.
