President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.

Under the new arrangement, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will run until June 30, 2028.

The presidency announced the extensions in a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, the approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in the two agencies and give their respective boards sufficient time to appoint successors.

The extension will allow both service chiefs to continue overseeing their agencies beyond their previously scheduled tenure periods while the process of selecting their replacements is concluded.

President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to consolidate the gains made in their respective services.

The development comes as the Federal Government continues to pursue reforms across agencies under the Ministry of Interior, which oversees the Nigerian Correctional Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service and other internal security institutions.

Nwakuche was nominated by President Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024. The Senate confirmed his appointment in March 2025.

As head of the Correctional Service, he oversees the administration of custodial facilities, the management of inmates and efforts to strengthen rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for offenders.
Nandap, on the other hand, was nominated by the President as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.

The Immigration Service is responsible for border management, immigration control, the issuance of travel documents and the enforcement of relevant immigration laws.
