
The Nigeria Police Force has reported a series of operational successes across eight states, including the rescue of six kidnapped victims, arrest of several suspects and recovery of firearms, ammunition and other criminal exhibits.
The successes, recorded between August 17 and 18, 2026, were contained in the Force’s state-by-state operational summary issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
In Plateau State, one suspect was arrested following a deadly attack in Mangu Local Government Area on August 18. The Commissioner of Police and senior officers visited the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment, while additional security personnel were deployed to prevent further escalation and restore confidence among residents.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Jos, is investigating the incident.
In Enugu State, police operatives rescued three kidnapped victims during a confrontation with five armed hoodlums along the Port Harcourt Expressway on August 17.
According to the police, the suspects had abducted the three victims and stolen a vehicle but were forced to abandon the vehicle and flee after encountering police patrol teams.
The victims were rescued unharmed, while operatives recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a cut-to-size firearm, ammunition, a magazine, hand gloves, a face mask and the stolen vehicle.
In a separate operation in Awgu and Oji-River LGAs of Enugu State, police arrested three suspects following raids on suspected criminal hideouts.
The operation yielded two AK-47 rifles, 55 rounds of live ammunition, three magazines, an explosive device and three machetes.
Meanwhile, police tactical operatives in Katsina State repelled an attack by suspected bandits along the Sabuwa-Marabar Yakawada Road.
The operatives engaged the attackers in a sustained gunfight and successfully repelled them. The police said no life was lost and no firearm was recovered from or lost to the attackers.
In Yobe State, police responded to an attack by armed hoodlums in Fika Local Government Area on August 18.
During the ensuing engagement, one suspect was neutralised while another was arrested. Police recovered bows, arrows, a cutlass and a bag containing charms.
In Ebonyi State, police intercepted a suspected kidnapping syndicate at Ebebe Junction, Abakaliki, shortly after a victim had been abducted.
The victim was rescued unharmed, while one suspect was arrested and three others fled. Police recovered a Toyota Camry allegedly used for the operation and two mobile phones.
In Abia State, police arrested a 55-year-old man who was allegedly attempting to vandalise rail tracks along the Aba/Owerri railway corridor.
A pump-action gun, a vehicle, a metal cutter, two machetes and a mobile phone were recovered from the suspect.
In Ogun State, police operatives responding to distress calls over armed robbery incidents in Atan-Ota forced the suspected robbers to flee upon sighting the officers.
An abandoned backpack was recovered, containing a mobile phone, iPad, electric pressing iron, earpod, clothes and medication.
The police said the various cases are being investigated by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments.
The Force reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
