The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says  Tuesday’s gas truck fire incident at Otedola Bridge, Lagos- Ibadan Expressway has been effectively combated by a combined team of Fire Service, FRSC and others.

FRSC said this on Wednesday in a statement by its spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

FRSC EMERGENCY RESPONDERS JOIN OTEDOLA BRIDGE RESCUE OPERATIONS AS CORPS MARSHAL WARNS ON STRICT ADHERENCE TO SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR MOVEMENT OF DANGEROUS GOODS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has once again demonstrated its proactive commitment to public safety and emergency response, as its rescue operatives rapidly deployed to join forces with the Fire Service and other emergency responders effectively combated a burning gas truck, as the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed warns owners and drivers of dangerous goods carrying vehicles to adhere strictly to all safety protocols.

The incident occurred on Tuesday 11 March, 2025 at the popular Otedola Bridge, on Lagos-Ibadan expressway posing a significant threat to lives and properties, before the arrival of the emergency Responders for prompt cordoning and evacuation to prevent further damage.

According to the rescue reports at the desk of the Corps Marshal, the crash involved 11 people, all male adults. 5 of them were injured while 2 got killed.

The multiple crash was alleged to have occurred as a result of mechanical deficiency manifested through break failure and involved a total of 15 vehicles.

The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, who expressed his displeasure over the preventable crash called on all fleet managers to make safety precautions a priority in fleet management. He warned against neglecting necessary safety measures ,stating that appropriate sanctions will continue to be meted out to the drivers and Vehicle Owners who compromise safety at the detriment of other Road Users  in accordance to the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations.

He affirmed that FRSC will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all road users, and will not hesitate to deploy resources and expertise to respond to any emergency situation. The Corps Marshal also urged all road users to remain vigilant and report any emergency situation to the FRSC or other relevant authorities through the Corps’ toll free emergency line 122.
