Senator Olugbenga Onaolapo Obadara has disputed the  account by Senator Ibikunle Amosun regarding the Ogun Central All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, describing it as inaccurate and misleading.

In a statement released Saturday by his Media Office, Obadara countered the narrative contained in Amosun’s press release titled “Setting the Record Straight,” insisting that key facts were omitted and that he never promised to step aside for the former governor.

According to Obadara, Amosun’s claim that three senatorial aspirants visited his residence to seek support was a distortion. “It is on record that Senator Amosun personally called him to request an urgent meeting at his residence, which was obliged out of courtesy and honour. That call and invitation were the genesis of his attendance. This material fact was completely omitted,” the statement read.

On the subject of the senatorial ambition, the Obadara camp was categorical. “During the private meeting at Amosun’s house, Obadara informed his host of his own intention to contest the Ogun Central ticket, a position he restated later at the larger gathering in Chief Olusegun Osoba’s residence. At no time did Senator Obadara volunteer to withdraw for Senator Amosun, nor was he asked to. Any suggestion that such a discussion took place is false,” the statement declared.

It further revealed that at Thursday’s larger meeting, Amosun claimed that some individuals with whom Obadara had discussed his ambition had suggested he would step down — a claim Obadara “denied vehemently.” Obadara’s media office posed the pointed question: “What is the rationale for one to step down for who is not in the race!!!”

Responding to the “three aspirants” narrative, the statement asserted that Obadara was neither aware of nor party to any conversation in which multiple aspirants pledged to step down for Amosun. “He cannot speak for other aspirants. He speaks only for himself: he never made such a commitment, and none was sought from him.”

While acknowledging the respect Obadara holds for Amosun as a former governor and senator, the media office stressed that “respect for individual and former offices held does not require accepting a false narrative.” It urged party stakeholders to desist from rewriting the events of April 23, warning that “the APC in Ogun Central needs truth, not revisionism, as we approach 2027.”

Senator Obadara, the statement concluded, remains committed to the party and will present himself to the members of Ogun Central for their support as their Senator once again. “He will not be pressured to step down through media statements.”
