The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced the University’s emergence as the overall winner of a prestigious national STEM competition (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that after a rigorous and highly competitive process involving leading universities across Nigeria, OAU advanced to the final stage alongside the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
In a thrilling finale marked by brilliance, innovation and teamwork, Obafemi Awolowo University outperformed FUTA to secure the first position overall.
Reacting to the victory, the Vice Chancellor , Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, said “this landmark achievement reaffirms the University’s enduring legacy of excellence in science and technology education, research and innovation. It also highlights the exceptional quality, discipline and ingenuity of our students, as well as the unwavering commitment of our faculty and staff.”
Professor Bamire, described the feat as “a proud moment in the history of our great University and a clear demonstration that Obafemi Awolowo University remains a pacesetter in STEM education, research, and innovation.”
He further commended the team for exemplifying the core values of excellence, integrity and hard work for which the University is renowned, adding that “this success not only strengthens OAU’s standing as a leading centre of academic excellence and beyond but also serves as motivation for even greater accomplishments.
Also praising the students for their resilience and dedication, the global President of Great Ife Alumni Association, Dr. Leye Falode, stated that “this victory is a product of rigorous preparation, teamwor and the enabling academic environment that OAU provides. Our students, who are future alumni, have once again proven that they can compete and excel at the highest level.”
The University Management, then, applauded the team for bringing great honour and prestige to the institution.
The Vice Chancellor thereafter extended the gratitude of his administration to all stakeholders whose support made the achievement possible and reiterated his commitment to nurturing talents, advancing knowledge, and sustaining excellence in all fields.
