The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has scheduled a Special National Prayer for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria for Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The prayer, which will take place at the Abuja National Mosque Complex from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., is intended to provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
The Council also announced that its General Assembly will hold the following day, Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the same venue, commencing at 10:00 a.m.
The General Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the NSCIA and brings together a broad representation of the Muslim community from across the country.
It will be presided over by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and attended by the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, HRH Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, CFR; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS; Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, FNAL; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.
Other participants are expected to include Muslim public office holders, including state governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, as well as representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory.
Representatives of Islamic organisations, members of the NSCIA General Purpose Committee (GPC) and Expanded General Purpose Committee (EGPC), alongside prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria, are also expected at the assembly.
The General Assembly provides a broad platform for consultation and reflection on matters affecting the Council, the Muslim Ummah and the nation, as well as consideration of issues of mutual interest to Muslims and the wider Nigerian society.
In a statement signed by its Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, the NSCIA urged all invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate actively in the two-day programme.
The Council also called on Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity and security, as well as good governance and sustainable development in the country.
The NSCIA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the stability, development and progress of Nigeria.
