Earlier this week, a section of online news media reported that NAHCON leadership refused to sack Alh Tawfiq Akinwale – alleging that the commission violates civil service rules and presidential directives by allowing the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Oyo State, Tawfiq Akinwale to remain in office.
The reports were reportedly based on a petition dated April 28 by some unnamed concerned staff of the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON urging the Head of Service to wades into the matter.
However, a document sighted by our Reporter indicates that the said Tawfiq Akinwale has been dismissed from the service of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria long before the petition was written.
The documents shows that Tawfiq Akinwale who was an Assistant Admin Officer in Ilorin Zonal Office of the commission was dismissed from the service of NAHCON on the 16th of March 2023 – a week after the 4th board of NAHCON meet and approved the recommendation of Establishment committee on the subject matter.
The journey to his dismissal started on the 8th of March when the 4th board of NAHCON held its 14th meeting and after considering the reports of the establishment committee approved that Mr Tawfiq Akinwale be dismissed from the service of the commission.
After consideration of the report, The Chairman of the commission approved his sack. Mr Tawfiq Akinwale was dismissed from NAHCON via letter dated 16th of March with reference number NAHCON/P/863/I/63 signed by Director of Admin and Human resources Dr I.M Sodangi for Chairman CEO.
Interestingly, part of the reports published by online platforms reads “,”As we are preparing to celebrate Workers Day, we as concerned staff are compelled by the situation on ground to bring to your kind attention an infringement/breach of civil service, public service, and presidential directive by a Staff of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria [NAHCON], Mr Tawfiq Tayo Akinwale, who contested the 2023 Oyo Gubernatorial Elections as the candidate of the Labour Party.
