The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has congratulated its Deputy President I, Alhaji Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, on the distinguished honours conferred on them by Crescent University, Abeokuta, during the institution’s 18th Convocation Ceremony.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday and jointly signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS, President, and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary.
The ceremony, held on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at the Bola Ajibola Auditorium, saw the investiture of Alhaji Ebiti as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the university. He was also conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) in Business Administration in recognition of his longstanding contributions to education, philanthropy, and institutional development.
The Olowu of Owu received an honorary doctorate degree. The monarch, who also serves as President-General of the Ogun State Muslim Council, has maintained a close and supportive relationship with MUSWEN.
Other recipients of honorary doctorates at the event included renowned legal practitioner Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN) and Dr Lukman A. Bolaji. The university also graduated 1,008 students and produced its first set of 16 PhD holders from the departments of Accounting, Biochemistry, Computer Science, and Mass Communication.
MUSWEN had earlier congratulated Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN) on his award. It had also previously hailed Ebiti’s appointment as Pro-Chancellor as a testament to his dedication to educational excellence, professional integrity, and service to the Muslim Ummah.
The organisation described him as a distinguished accountant and philanthropist of high repute whose footprints in the educational sector are already legendary.
MUSWEN noted that Ebiti’s earlier leadership as Pro-Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, was marked by visionary reforms and a strong commitment to student welfare and academic standards. It expressed confidence that he would bring the same passion and expertise to Crescent University, founded on the noble values of “Learning and Character” by the late Prince Bola Ajibola.
MUSWEN said the awards bestowed on Ebiti, the Olowu, Ali and the other recipients underscore Crescent University’s commitment to celebrating individuals who combine academic, professional, traditional, and philanthropic excellence in service to society.
The organisation described the honours as a source of pride for the Muslim Ummah and a boost to faith-based higher education in Nigeria. It prayed for divine wisdom, good health, and continued success for the awardees as they contribute further to education, community development, and the upliftment of the Ummah.
