The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has called for the removal of Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Tinubu.
MMWG made the call in a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Yusuf Agbabiaka, after the General Assembly of the group.
MMWG hinged its call on a position paper written by Prof Amupitan, which partly formed the basis upon which the American president, Mr Donald Trump, declared Nigeria as Country of Particular Concerns (CPC).
The paper, written in 2022 by Professor Amupitan when he was at the University of Jos was titled GENOCIDE IN NIGERIA – THE IMPLICATION FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.
MMWG, while condemning Professor Amupitan over what it called “baseless, reckless and irresponsible Report” added that “the Author of such damaging Legal Brief is not qualified nor competent to come and seat in any position of authority in this Country as he lacks the pedigree to hold such an office.”
MMWG said the insecurity in Nigeria was affecting citizens of all faiths, rather than being targeted solely against Christians.
It also said the current administration and the previous ones have been working assidously to combat the insecurity.
