As Muslims across the globe commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has charged the Muslim lUmmah to demonstrate a deeper, more active concern for the affairs and trajectory of the Nigerian nation.
In a special Maulud Nabiyyi commemorative message issued to the press in Abeokuta, the Secretary-General of the OMC, Asiwaju (Balogun) Kamal’deen Akintunde emphasized that the arduous task of nation-building must not be left exclusively in the hands of the leadership. He noted that a functional and progressive society requires both the governing and the governed to be fully alive to their respective civic and moral responsibilities.
According to the Secretary-General, for Nigeria to overcome its current socio-economic challenges, the leadership must be strictly exemplary, transparent, and righteous in their administrative dealings. Simultaneously, the citizenry must equally be law-abiding, highly patriotic, and willing to jettison divisive and unnecessary sentiments in their contributions to national development.
The statement further reminded the *Ummah* that the Prophet of Islam (SAW) perfectly demonstrated the highest virtues of life. His righteous living, absolute honesty, dedication, promotion of unity, and unwavering sincerity of purpose remain the ultimate blueprint for navigating and alleviating human woes.
The OMC leadership, therefore, urged all Muslims to use the occasion of the Maulud Nabiyyi to reflect deeply on these prophetic virtues, praying that Almighty Allah heals the nation and guides its leaders aright.
