LASUTH matriculates students into Anaesthetic , Orthopaedic Cast, Paramedics Technology schools

‎The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) held its matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students of the Schools of Anaesthetic Technology, Orthopaedic Cast Technology and Paramedics Technology for the 2025/2026 academic session on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the MRC Auditorium.

‎In her remarks, the Head of the School of Anaesthetic Technology, Dr. Titilola Awodesu thanked LASUTH Management for establishing the school and congratulated the matriculating students. She highlighted the objectives of the programme and assured them that the programme would enable the students to become qualified Anaesthetic Technologists and Technicians.

‎The Head of the School of Orthopaedic Cast Technology and Director and Head of the Nursing Department, LASUTH, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babarimisa welcomed the guests and students, noting that the matriculants were the third cohort of the school. She expressed confidence in the faculty and encouraged the students to take advantage of the mentorship and support available to them.

‎Similarly, the Head of the School of Paramedics Technology, Dr. Segun Idowu welcomed the students to the maiden edition of the programme and urged them to remain focused and committed to excellence.

‎Delivering his address, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, welcomed dignitaries, management staff, matriculants, and guests to the ceremony. He described LASUTH as an institution driven by a vision of excellence and attributed its continued growth and achievements to the support of the Lagos State Government.

‎Prof. Fabamwo stated that LASUTH’s ambition is to attain quaternary healthcare status, becoming a centre where other teaching hospitals refer highly specialised cases. He noted that the hospital is steadily progressing towards this goal through strategic investments in education, research, and healthcare delivery.

‎The CMD expressed pride in the School of Anaesthetic Technology, describing it as a trailblazing institution whose graduates are making significant contributions across Nigeria and beyond. He noted that many alumni are currently practising in various parts of the country, while others have secured opportunities abroad.

‎Speaking on the School of Orthopaedic Cast Technology, Prof. Fabamwo acknowledged the support and collaboration of the Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology, Igbobi, which played a vital role in the development of the programme. He also noted that the school has received accreditation from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), adding that Orthopaedic Cast Technologists remain a highly sought-after cadre of healthcare professionals nationwide.

‎He described the School of Paramedics Technology as the newest addition to LASUTH’s educational programmes. Prof. Fabamwo disclosed that LASUTH currently operates eight schools, with plans underway to establish a ninth. He explained that the institution establishes schools based on identified national manpower needs and skill gaps within the healthcare sector.

‎He emphasised the importance of professional paramedic training, noting that many preventable deaths occur due to improper handling of accident and disaster victims before they reach healthcare facilities.


‎He further explained that paramedics are trained in emergency response, patient assessment, triage, stabilisation, and safe transportation of victims. He stressed that the programme is designed to equip students with life-saving skills and should not be misconstrued as training for medical doctors.

‎In his goodwill message, the Director, South-West Zone of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr. John Onyebuchi congratulated the students on their admission and encouraged them to uphold discipline, integrity, responsibility, and academic excellence.

‎Representing the Registrar of the Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology, Igbobi, Mrs. Olufunke Medaiyese advised the students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to teamwork throughout their training.

‎Also speaking, the Director of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Mrs. Beatrice Makinde urged the students to strive for excellence and continuous professional development. She disclosed that the Lagos State Government has approved a professional cadre for paramedics within the state civil service, creating employment opportunities for qualified graduates.

Adekoya; Director of Hospital Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose; Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Raliat Tosin Hassan; Registrar, LASUTH Institute of Allied Health Sciences and Management, Mrs. Olubunkunola Oyinlade; Assistant Director, Matriculation Division, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Mr. Kayode Adeyinka, and members of the Management Committee, LASUTH, amongst others.
