Five suspected kidnappers have been arrested in an Ekiti forest by a combined team of the Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, the Odua People’s Congress and local hunters.
The team was launched in
an effort to eradicate criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, from Èkìtì State, which on Monday witnessed the killing of two traditional rulers by gunmen and kidnapping of some school pupils and teachers.
The operation of the joint security team targeted areas such as Oke-Osun, Ikere/Igbo-Okah, and the dense forests near the Iju/Ikere boundary.
During the operation, five suspected kidnappers – Usman Jelili, Mohammed Bande, Abubakar Aliu, Isah Abdullahi, and Suleiman Abdullahi – were apprehended .
Despite claiming to be herdsmen, none of the suspects were found with cattle, and no cattle were discovered in the forest where they were captured.
Ekiti State Police said in a press release on Tuesday the security team recovered two motorcycles, a cutlass, a jackknife/dagger, and four phones from the suspects.
