Japan, Nigeria Strengthen Customs Cooperation to Enhance Trade Facilitation

The Government of Japan and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation aimed at improving trade facilitation and creating a more conducive business environment.

During a courtesy visit to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service and Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on June 30, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan, Mr. Kozaki Hitoshi, accompanied by the Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nigeria Office, Mr. Ishigame, held discussions on key issues affecting customs administration and bilateral trade.

The meeting focused on enhancing trade facilitation, addressing customs-related challenges encountered by Japanese companies operating in Nigeria, and expanding human resource development initiatives through JICA’s capacity-building programmes.

Comptroller-General Adeniyi reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Japan and designated a focal point to facilitate effective communication and coordination with the Japanese Embassy.

The Japanese delegation reiterated Japan’s commitment to working closely with the Nigeria Customs Service to promote efficient customs processes, strengthen institutional cooperation, and foster an improved business environment that supports increased trade and investment between both countries.
