The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the temporary unavailability of its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), citing technical challenges associated with the platform’s hosting arrangements.
In a statement on Thursday signed by Dr Fabian Benjamin, Ag. Director, Public Affairs and Protocol (PAP), JAMB, the Board said the disruption commenced earlier in the day and that it had immediately commenced intensive engagement with the hosting organisation to identify and resolve the problem.
CAPS is the central platform through which admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria are processed.
JAMB acknowledged the timing of the disruption, noting that it occurred at a critical period of the admission exercise when institutions are actively processing admissions and candidates are awaiting decisions on their admission status.
The Board said it considered it necessary to promptly inform candidates, institutions and other stakeholders of the development to prevent speculation over the cause of the disruption.
“Rather than leave candidates, institutions and other stakeholders to speculate about the cause of the disruption, the Board is providing this update while all necessary efforts are being made to restore the platform,” the statement said.
JAMB expressed regret over the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause candidates, institutions and other users of the platform.
It assured stakeholders that it was working round the clock with the hosting organisation to restore CAPS to full functionality “within the shortest possible time.”
The Board also said it would review the circumstances surrounding the disruption after the platform is restored, with a view to introducing measures to prevent a recurrence.
“Given the critical role of CAPS in ensuring a transparent, orderly and coordinated admissions process, the Board will also review the circumstances surrounding the disruption with a view to putting measures in place to prevent a recurrence of such interruptions,” it said.
JAMB appealed for the patience and understanding of candidates, institutions and other stakeholders, adding that further updates would be issued as developments unfold.
