Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has accused former Ogun State governorship aspirant Iyabo Obasanjo of leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) after he refused her request for reimbursement of campaign expenses.

Addressing market leaders during a campaign event, Adeola described the demand as insulting, insisting that Obasanjo did not leave the APC because the party had wronged her.

“Asking me to refund you or pay back what you have expended on this electioneering campaign is insulting to me,” Adeola said.

He alleged that Obasanjo defected because she was offered money by the governorship candidate of a rival party , adding that she was motivated by personal financial interests rather than commitment to the APC  or Ogun State.

“You are not a party person. You just want to cash in, and you are being paid. You don’t mean well for Ogun State. They are there in their numbers looking for the purse of Ogun State,” he said.

Adeola further claimed that after failing to secure what she wanted from him and the APC, Obasanjo turned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, in pursuit of similar personal benefits.

The senator said he would reveal more details at the appropriate time, maintaining that recent exchanges between him and Obasanjo had exposed what he described as her political dishonesty.

Iyabo Obasanjo has since secured the ticket of the PDP to contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
