The Institute of Leadership, Coaching and Strategy (ILCS) Nigeria has congratulated Professor C.U.C. Ugorji on his conferment with the Fellowship of the English Scholars’ Association of Nigeria (ESAN), describing the honour as a recognition of his outstanding contributions to English Studies, linguistics and academic development in Nigeria.
Professor Ugorji received the prestigious fellowship on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.
In a congratulatory message signed by the President and Chairman of Council, Dr. Olasunkade Azeez, FILCS, and the Registrar/Chief Executive, Barrister Ifeoma Adeniyi, FILCS, the ILCS described the award as a fitting recognition of the professor’s commitment to scholarly excellence, academic advancement and quality service to education in Nigeria.
The institute said the fellowship was a testament to Professor Ugorji’s “unwavering dedication and impactful leadership role” in scholarship, research and the development of education.
According to the ILCS, Professor Ugorji has distinguished himself through significant contributions to several fields of language and linguistic studies, including Phonology, Sociolinguistics, English Linguistics, African Linguistics, Igbo language, Meta-Linguistic Theorising, Pedagogical Linguistics, Language Endangerment, and Language Planning and Management Linguistics.
The institute noted that his body of scholarly work and academic contributions had earned him recognition among scholars while contributing to the advancement of language studies and education in Nigeria.
It described his elevation to the fellowship of ESAN as a distinguished honour and expressed its pride in having such an accomplished scholar associated with the institute.
The ILCS urged Professor Ugorji to regard the recognition as further encouragement to continue making meaningful contributions to scholarship, leadership and the advancement of education in Nigeria.
