When you’re on Ikorodu Road, especially after Mile 12, please beware of the ‘MEN IN UNIFORM’ who waylay private motorists for seen and unseen offences – A friend’s car was almost impounded yesterday just because they believed one of his car’s tyres entered BRT Lane, not the whole vehicle but only one tyre – and he was forced to pay N20k, it was a glaring extortion as he needed to quickly call me to wade in.

This seems better instead of the 70k if his whole vehicle was charged to have used the BRT Lane – either true, or not – if charged, he must pay or the vehicle gets impounded.

He said none of his tyres entered the BRT Lane, but nothing could prove him right hence he was made a victim.

Ikorodu ExpressRoad is very known with this menace, because there are no signposts mostly for this encumberation, and car owners would have fallen into the trap before they know it,  especially the not-frequent users of that particular road.

The situation on Ikorodu Road highlights a systemic issue that must be addressed. The lack of clear signposts and the arbitrary enforcement of traffic laws create a predatory environment where motorists are unfairly penalized. While adherence to road regulations is essential, so is fairness and transparency in enforcement.

Private car owners must remain vigilant, challenge extortion attempts, and advocate for better road signage and clearer regulations. Until authorities step up to curb this menace, knowledge and community awareness remain the best defense against unjust penalties.

Drive cautiously, stay informed, and never hesitate to speak up against exploitation.

Drive SAFE!
Avoid Extortion!
Steer clear of BRT LANES!
