As global interest in natural remedies continues to grow, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, will on Thursday, June 18, 2026, host a major academic discourse aimed at exploring how science can strengthen public confidence in herbal medicine and other natural health products.
The University’s 4th Inaugural Lecture will be delivered by renowned Clinical Chemist and Toxicologist, Prof. Augustine Anayochukwu Onyeaghala, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, whose extensive work in clinical research, laboratory quality systems and phytomedicine has earned him recognition within and beyond Nigeria.
Scheduled for 11am at the University Auditorium, the lecture is titled, “When Science Serves Society: Aligning Natural Products, Clinical Evidence and Quality System.”
The presentation is expected to examine the critical role of scientific validation in transforming traditional remedies into trusted healthcare solutions, while highlighting the need for robust quality assurance systems that can guarantee safety, efficacy and public trust.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Oyedunni Sola Arulogun, the event forms part of the institution’s commitment to promoting research-driven solutions to contemporary societal challenges.
The lecture comes at a time when healthcare experts worldwide are increasingly advocating evidence-based approaches to alternative medicine, particularly in developing countries where natural products remain widely used for disease prevention and treatment.
For many observers, Prof. Onyeaghala is uniquely positioned to lead such a conversation. Over the last three decades, he has built an impressive reputation in Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Research, Health Systems Strengthening and Laboratory Quality Management.
His research on natural-product-derived compounds for the treatment of cervical cancer attracted international attention and contributed to growing scientific interest in the therapeutic potential of indigenous medicinal resources.
Beyond academia, Prof. Onyeaghala has participated in several high-impact national and international health programmes, including the World Health Organization-supported National Antimicrobial Resistance Survey, diagnostic network optimization projects for the Federal Ministry of Health, and major HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 research initiatives.
With more than 60 scholarly publications and numerous contributions to national healthcare policies, his work continues to influence conversations around disease diagnosis, laboratory systems, healthcare quality and public health interventions.
