The Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, received a delegation of Coalition of Funtua Community-Based Organizations for a courtesy call on Wednesday, 5th July 2023, at Katsina State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Alh. Umar Faruq Mutallab congratulated the Governor on his swearing-in as the 5th democratically elected Governor of Katsina State. He also applauded him for his wonderful giant strides
in laying a solid foundation that would guarantee the successful implementation of people-centred policies that target improving the welfare and socio-economic activities of the people of Katsina State.
Furthermore, he disclosed that they were in Abuja to seek his intervention for the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Funtua which, according to him, would justify his commitment to delivering on his pledges to run an inclusive government by ensuring equity and justice for all the people of the state. He also revealed that Funtua is the headquarters of Funtua Zone and its environment enjoys a sizeable population and several good schools that can feed the university in question. Given these highlighted facts, the coalition passionately requested the Governor to kindly initiate the process of locating the university in Funtua. According to them, the process should entail writing to the Federal Ministry of Education conveying the Governor’s sincere preference to site the university in Funtua.
Governor Malam Dikko Radda, during his remarks, disclosed that for equity, fairness and justice, he would do all he could within the ambit of the law to ensure that the Federal University of Health Science and Technology is situated in Funtua. He, further, remarked that Funtua has played a vital role in the history and development of Katsina State. Over time, Funtua has grown into a prosperous trading centre; it also excels in agriculture and other cultural activities. Finally, he commended the coalition’s readiness to provide a temporary site for the university to take off and the provision of the proposed permanent site that will be handed over to the Federal Government.
The delegation of the forum included Alh. Umar Faruk Mutallab, Senator Muntari Dandutse, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, Alh. Lawal Garba, Alh. Amadu Ardo, Dr Amiru Sanusi, Members House of Representatives representing Musawa/Matazu, Funtua/Dandume and Malumfashi/Kafur. Similarly, members of the Katsina State House of Assembly representing the Danja, Dandume, Funtua, and Faskari local governments were on the delegation. Likewise, the Chairmen of Funtua, Faskari, Dandume, Musawa, Matazu, Danja, and Bakori were also in attendance.
