FUTA Alumnus,Dr. Adeleke,Ranked Among World’s Top 2% Scientists

An alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure  (FUTA), Dr. Bartholomew Adeleke, has earned global recognition by being ranked among the top 2% of scientists in the world, according to the latest report released by Elsevier/Stanford University on September 16, 2024. The report provides an extensive analysis of scientific publications and citation metrics, identifying the world’s most impactful scientists. This prestigious accolade marks a significant milestone in his academic career.

Dr. Adeleke was ranked 192,742 globally in the field of Plant Biology and Botany, with 32 Scopus-indexed publications, and placed 3,452 out of 174,582 scholars ranked in this specialized field.

Dr. Adeleke’s attended the  Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in 2011. He furthered his studies at FUTA, earning a Master’s degree in Food Microbiology in 2017. His passion for understanding the interactions between plants, soil, and microbes, particularly their applications in agriculture, led him to pursue a Doctoral degree in Science with Biology/Microbiology at North-West University, South Africa. He completed his Ph.D. in 2022, specializing in soil-plant-microbe interactions.

Currently, Dr. Adeleke serves as a Lecturer II in the Microbiology program, Department of Biological Sciences, at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Nigeria, and is a member of the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA).

In addition to teaching, he actively mentors students and conducts research focused on soil and plant microbes, exploring their potential as bioinoculants to enhance crop yields and soil fertility. His work has made a significant impact on agricultural practices and scientific advancements, addressing global food security challenges.

Dr. Adeleke’s inclusion in the list of the world’s top 2% scientists underscores the global impact of his research. His achievement reflects the high quality of education and training provided by FUTA, an institution renowned for its emphasis on promoting “Technology for Self-Reliance.” Dr. Adeleke’s accomplishments serve as a source of inspiration for current students and recent graduates of both FUTA and OAUSTECH, demonstrating the heights that can be reached through dedicated research and hard work.

One of Dr. Adeleke’s most notable contributions lies in his research on soil and endophytic microbiomes. His work is widely cited in fields, such as agriculture, environmental science, and public health, highlighting its broad relevance and significance.
