Four Police officers have been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for allegedly extorting ₦53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN).
They are currently facing an orderly room trial, with the FCT Commissioner of promising severe disciplinary action, including possible dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.
The officers reportedly abandoned their assigned duty posts from various divisions and formed an extortion ring.
They mounted an unauthorized, illegal checkpoint around the Banex area of Wuse, Abuja.
Unaware of his identity, the officers stopped the ICPC Chairman and forced him to withdraw ₦53,000 using a Point of Sale (POS) operator. Dr. Aliyu calmly complied, paid the transaction charges, and the officers shared the money among themselves.
The ICPC Chairman reported the incident to the police after which investigators tracked down and arrested the gang leader first, whose confession led to the apprehension of the remaining three accomplices.
During a press briefing on Monday, July 20, 2026, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, strongly condemned the actions of the personnel, describing them as “thieves” and “criminals” who have no business wearing the police uniform.
